Creative Writing by Cathryn Sharpe

Curls, swirls, colours and dreams,
Purples, reds, oranges and creams,
Silver, gold, charcoal and grey,
Grass, straw, pebbles and hay.

Hessian, cotton, muslin and crepe,
Circles, squares and other shapes,
Pencils, pens, pastels and paint,
Dark, light, medium and faint.

Sequins, foil, chalk and glitter,
Newspaper, sweet papers, someone's litter,
Screwed up, cut and even torn,
Pasta, pulses, rice and corn.

Glue and paste and Sellotape,
Stick it down to make a shape,
Bash it, chop it, change it around,
Make it small or very loud.

Cardboard, tissue, cellophane,
Thick black paper, woody grain,
Scissors, craft knives, tearing hands,
Elastic, string and rubber bands.

Paints of powder, poster and oil,
Cord, chain, wool to make a coil,
Folded paper to make a hat,
Roll it up or lay it flat.

Hundreds of colours of chunky crayons,
Feathers, buttons, pins and Dralon,
Scribble, draw, paint or shade,
Have a go, don't be afraid!

Use your fingers, mouth or toes,
Hold the pencil, have a go,
The way you draw can be unconventional,
The mess you make can be quite intentional!

Use old pictures from magazines,
Play-doh, putty or Plasticine,
Cut up calendars, boxes and books,
Sand, soil, clay and pieces of rock.

Throw it down or hang it up,
For the others to have a look,
In the bin or shut away,
Or save it for another day.
